Water Damage Restoration In Miami

Say Miami, and most people respond with words about tourism or a particular TV show still in syndication around the world. For more than six million of us, though, that first word is home. In every home, though, things happen. Often, it is the minor disasters like a broken shut-off valve that throws an owner or resident’s life into chaos.

Thorough remediation of water damage in Miami residences is not a simple process. SERVPRO restoration teams perform every task needed to not only return each home to its original, dry condition but also to prevent the risk of further damage.

Most plumbing failures spread treated or clean water across the floors, making it possible for our teams to preserve the carpets as long as the water does not soak in for too long. In one case, a two-bedroom home was unoccupied over the weekend, so the water from an overflowing toilet tank soaked into the carpet and pad for two-and-a-half days. That caused the top and bottom layers to separate, running the carpet completely.

SERVPRO technicians drew out the water to reduce the weight and disposed of the carpets and pads immediately on finding the problem. Fortunately, this was limited to the carpets in the dining and living rooms, and the hallway leading to them.

After disposal, team members used an air mover to dry the now exposed concrete floor. The device put out a flow of warm air, swiftly drying the surface. They used a squeegee to pull water out of the corners and soaked it up with a sponge.

The soaked carpets also raised the humidity level inside the home, testing high enough to allow mold spores to begin expanding and growing if left to lower by itself through natural evaporation. To lower it faster, team members set up a dehumidifier in the dining room to draw water from the surrounding air. They also installed two fans, pulling air from the hallway and affected rooms and directing it outside, increasing the effectiveness of the dehumidifier.

For SERVPRO of South Miami, our goal is to return a dry, safe home to every one of our neighbors. If your residence here, in Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, or Hollywood recently suffered a plumbing failure or other water intrusion, call us today at (305) 269-8900 to begin restoration.
